User Experience Manager

 

The User Experience Manager reports to the head of the Digital Marketing Center of Excellence. The User Experience (UX) Manager will be responsible for defining the strategy for user experiences and digital presentation of our brand and marketing content to support our global financial services brands. The UX team is committed to human-centered design principles and will provide user experience leadership and specific user interface design guidance to support key marketing initiatives. The manager’s activities will include creating and executing a project plans, providing guidance to team members and working closely with client/partner delivery teams to create and develop appropriate user experience deliverables for public-facing web properties. 
 
Major Duties

 

- Lead and direct the work of the design team comprised of user experience, visual design, interaction design and digital content experts tasked with online and digital art production including performance management process, training and development.

- Serve as subject matter expert who brings human-centered design thinking to the overall marketing communications process. Speak for clients’ needs, goals, activities, experiences and mindset throughout the project.

- Conceptualize, develop and manage “best in class” creative solutions in the digital and online space.

- Apply and extend brand identity systems, typography, photography, color, tone of voice and other components appropriately to create innovative visual and functional solutions that meet business and project needs.

- Implement branding requirements through design and the application and manipulation of HTML, CSS. JavaScript and other leading-edge technologies.

- Provide quality assurance of digital creative deliverables.

- Plan, implement and analyze research, including but not limited to interviews and usability sessions. Act upon feedback to evolve and constantly improve systems and implementations.

- Lead creative input sessions, client presentations, status updates and other meetings needed to support projects.

- Assign, review and direct work of UX project teams, taking quality of design and adherence to stakeholders’ goals into account.

- Work within constraints of a budget and within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Manage relationships with external suppliers and vendors as needed to ensure quality and timely services.

- Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact

Experience Required

 

-A college or university degree (Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design) is preferred.

-  7 or more years of digital design experience in a corporate environment or for an agency is recommended.

- Background in Information Systems, Web Development, Interactive Design, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design or a related field is required.

- Supervisory experience preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills

   

• Excellent communication skills, easily adaptable, exceptionally organized, strong presentation skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

• Ability to be a trusted internal and external adviser and evangelist.

• Knowledge and experience with graphic design. Proficiency with front end UI technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.) and current technologies.

• Proficiency with wire-framing and prototyping tools (Axure, Bootstrap, etc.).

• A desire to work in a multitasking, fast-paced environment and to lead a highly creative and productive team.

• Experience in working within Microsoft Office along with an array of art creation software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, DPS. Knowledge in HTML a plus

• Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine resources and to assess and develop the skills of the staff. 

• Ability to grow and maintain a design system in collaboration with other Northern Trust design teams.
