  Description of the group:  

Our group is responsible for engineering the critical technology infrastructure of Northern Trust Bank that prevents outages and minimizes down time.

     

Description of the role:    

We are in the process of implementing the SPLUNK toolset to give greater visibility to the health of our infrastructure and identify areas of concern.

 

  1. Exploratory data analysis of system logs (SED, AWK, GREP, Splunk)

  2. Building data visualizations using multiple tools including: (R, Splunk, Excel)

  3. Identify and document data sources (Confluence, Share Point, Word)

  4. Project management (Agile, Jira, scrum)

  5. Programming and version control (R, Python, Java, Bitbucket)

 

Presentation of findings (communication, public speaking, power point)

 

 

 

 

  • A desire to learn more about data science.

  • A good work ethic.

  • Familiar with the Linux command line:  Bash scripting, SED, AWK.

  • Moderate understanding of relational database concepts and ability to write SQL would be helpful.

  • An aptitude/interest for such topics as statistics, actuarial science, math, game theory, programming, analytical thinking, survival analysis, forecasting, optimization and machine learning.
