Job Title: Sr. Consultant - Omnium Financial Strategy, Alternative Fund Services

Description: Supports strategic financial reporting and analysis across the Omnium technology platform – including software developer and business operations teams’ development costs, IT support costs, and IT infrastructure.   This individual will help provide financial, analytical, and decision-making support for various external and internal strategic decisions.  Reports to the strategic financial reporting manager.

Omnium Platform: Northern Trust Corporation announced in January 2018 that it had reached an agreement with Citadel to bring Omnium® technology development in-house – including a team of key development professionals as well as software development rights for its Omnium® technology platform. Northern Trust acquired Citadel’s hedge fund administration business (Omnium®) in 2011 and licensed their middle and back office investment technology. That business, now known as Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services, has grown from $70 billion in assets under administration to more than $350 billion in assets under administration, across more than 130 clients. Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services has approximately 1,200 employees worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities:

Monthly financial reporting and forecasting
  • Supports monthly financial analysis and reporting (actual spend to date, forecast and status of spend) for the full Omnium platform across multiple stakeholder segments: Hedge Fund Services globally, Self-Managed Asset Owners, Investment Operations Outsourcing, and Derivatives.
  • Creates accurate analysis and reporting through attention to detail and in-depth business understanding. Recognizes unexpected variances and investigates the cause by partnering with IT, procurement and product teams. Knows the numbers inside and out and is able to comfortably speak to the data with stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Works with Omnium IT to connect development spend to roadmap to convey progress against specific business goals.
  • Presents information in a concise, intuitive format focused on key takeaways and actionable recommendations to leadership.
Annual financial planning
  • Supports annual planning by helping to author and present capital investment business cases (discounted cash flow analyses, IRR, payback) to the C&IS capital committee and various C&IS stakeholders.
  • Works with Omnium leadership and C&IS finance to create annual financial plan.
Ad hoc financial and data analysis
  • Works with key stakeholders within and outside of Alternative Fund Services and Omnium (such as procurement, Program team, external vendors, etc.) to analyze opportunities to improve financial performance of the Omnium platform. For example, analysis to understand financial implications of bringing on new software, changes in personnel mix and responsibilities, or beginning new initiatives.
  • Creates processes as needed to collect key data points related to the above types of analysis.
Project Management & Process Improvement
  • Passionately looks for and pursues improvements to data quality, aggregation, analyses, and reporting for monthly, annual, and ad hoc processes. Approaches challenges by embracing new technologies and collaborating with team partners.
  • Manages execution of improvement projects by creating clear plans, holding yourself and the team accountable to milestones and deliverables, and providing transparent communication to leadership and stakeholders.

Skills & Experience:
  • Strong communication and analytical skills. Experience preparing and presenting complex financial or data focused information to stakeholders and senior leadership is preferred
  • Positive, self-starter who embraces opportunities to improve processes.
  • Superior skills with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, SharePoint) and quick to learn and master new tools.
  • Comfortable with financial systems, large data sets and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge of Northern Trust’s Finance and Accounting practices and/or Hedge Fund Services team is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience, with an emphasis on financial analysis/modeling and planning/forecasting (FP&A) and project management.
  • A 4 year College or University degree is strongly preferred
