Job Description:  Data Integration Senior Consultant, Hedge Fund Services  

Department:   Information Delivery

Summary:  Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services (NTHFS) is looking for a highly motivated Sr Consultant to join our growing Information Delivery team. This team works with clients and internal partners to understand their data needs and looks at creative solutions to deliver the required data in an effective and efficient way. The candidate will be responsible for client and internal cross business unit collaboration to design, solution, test, implement and maintain data and reporting solutions that meet the requirements of external clients and internal partners.  
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and understanding of databases and data structures accompanied with strong analytical skills to manage the transition from proprietary reporting models/tools to market leading reporting tools (Microsoft SQL Server stack of solutions). 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with clients, business owners and SME’s to help capture and formalize client requirements
  • Interact with technology and operations to formulate and implement solutions to enhance existing services, create new client deliverables, or improve processes. Identify impact of changes and processes on teams; facilitate acceptance of change through training and communication.  Provide ongoing support for the solution
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of new processes, systems and/or modifications to existing solutions. Coordinate testing of new systems and systems modifications
  • Troubleshoot data and reporting issues and work with various support teams to implement solutions
  • Configure back-end infrastructure for the report delivery process
  • Perform functional and regression testing for ongoing developments
  • Be a proactive partner to our end-users by communicating effectively, gaining a deep understanding of requirements, managing expectations, and driving efficient execution
  • Explore new technologies and learn new skills to continuously improve the way we operate
  • Develop novel data solutions to drive self-service and make data easily accessible to clients and internal partners
  • Assist with solutioning and strategic design for agile development
  • Gain an understanding of the business processes and the technology platform that enables it
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
  • Minimum 3+ years of work experience within a Financial Services domain
  • Clear and concise business communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • In depth technical knowledge of daily financial and/or investment industry usually acquired through experience in related areas is required to design process improvements and provide support 
  • Knowledge of systems and technological capabilities usually acquired through formal training or experience 
  • Advanced analytical and communication skills are required to evaluate effectiveness of processes, and to redesign or implement changes. 
  • Prior experience with data modeling; knowledge of data warehouse concepts (ie Star, columnar vs.row, In-Memory)
  • Project leadership skills are required to communicate with partners and implement solutions 
  • Adaptive, flexible style - able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience analyzing business risks and operational processes 
  • Strong multi-tasking and problem solving skills
  • Extensive experience transforming underlying data into functional data sets in order to generate meaningful insights
  • Previous experience accessing, manipulating and interpreting data to inform decision-making. Working with large, multi-dimensional data sets to uncover meaningful insights
  • Knowledge of the best practices for implementation and integration with data visualization frameworks
  • Strong familiarity with data warehouse design principles, including dimensional modeling
  • Preferred technical skills – SQL, VBA, Python, Tableau, Microsoft SSRS/PowerBI
  • Experience in Microsoft SQL Server stack of solutions, including SSIS and SSAS, SQL, R, Python, Power BI a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
