The Investment Risk and Analytical Services (IRAS) Practice delivers Performance, Compliance and Risk services primarily to Corporate and Institutional clients, Investment Managers, and Asset Owners.  The Change Management function within IRAS is responsible for capability development, delivering functionality in support of product roadmaps and in response to client-driven requests.  The group, in collaboration with Technology, utilizes the AGILE development approach.


The Product Manager role within IRAS Change Management serves as the AGILE Product Owner, responsible for prioritizing the product backlog and steering the team’s efforts towards continuous delivery of business value in alignment with the product’s roadmap and vision and stakeholder expectations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


·     Defining the Product Vision

o   Collaborates with the IRAS Product group to develop a product roadmap

o   Manages the product for expected business growth

o   Communicates with stakeholders to understand business objectives

o   Presents at monthly steer meetings to ensure management and stakeholder buy-in on major decisions and strategy

·        Management of the Product Backlog

o   Considers the needs and objectives of stakeholders

o   Prioritizes items based on overall strategy

o   Ensures that JIRA is up to date and used to manage the product backlog

o   Contributes to the planning, execution and review of each sprint

o   Works with the team to refine and improve the development process

·        Management of Cost Allocation and Billing

o   Manages scope, budget and time to prioritize projects

o   Ensures that stories are prioritized according to their relative cost/benefit

·        Client and Investment Manager Interaction

o   Understands and anticipate client needs to manage the development process

o   Provides timely “level of effort” estimation for client-funded work

o   Monitors and evaluates product progress and whether the sprint deliverables are in line with expectations

·        Knowledge Share

o   Ensures that business stakeholders and operational partners are participating in demos

o   Holds knowledge share sessions with partners


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Domain expertise – possesses strong working knowledge of investment rates of return calculation, performance attribution, index construction, investment classification hierarchies, and understanding of how these concepts factor into the investment decision making process for our clients.
  • Strategic thinking – able to assess strengths and weaknesses of existing capabilities, synthesize client feedback and requests for new features, design and articulate a future state vision for the business capability, and build the business case for potential investment in the capability.
  • Risk Management – understands the areas of risk associated with the business capability and its operational implementation, anticipates where new risks may be introduced with changes to or introduction of new functionality, and proactively acts to identify and advance mitigating measures.
  • AGILE acumen – sets the direction for the team, planning capability delivery to support achievement of functional delivery milestones in an efficient and predictable manner.  Anticipates and resolves road blocks for the team and effectively coordinates multi-disciplinary projects with other teams.
  • Communication – dynamic and engaging communicator, comfortable with talking about Performance subject matter with diverse audiences at varying degrees of detail.  Can discuss detailed functional or technical topics with development team members, is equally comfortable talking about high-level strategy with senior management familiar with the subject matter, and can simplify complex subject matter for client servicing partners less familiar with the topics.  Presents well to clients and prospects, actively listening to their needs and concerns and tailoring appropriate responses.
  • Stakeholder Management – is comfortable balancing the needs of multiple business stakeholders, making judgement calls about relative priority of competing demands, and keeping all stakeholders up to date with clear status updates and reasonable expectations for delivery.
  • Task Delegation – is comfortable trusting team members to deliver.  Provides team members with assignments just beyond their comfort zone and supports them where needed.  Gives team members the opportunity to occasionally fail rather than stepping in to do the work her/himself.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:    

  • Bachelor’s or preferably advanced degree in a finance-related field.
  • Minimum five years in the financial services industry (preferably in the Performance Analytics space).  Ten or more years would be strongly preferred.  Industry-recognized accreditation a plus.
  • Prior experience leading AGILE application development teams comprised of technical and business-oriented team members of varying levels of experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cloud architecture, APIs, and Business Intelligence tools preferred.
