Northern Trust Investment Risk & Analytical Services is looking to hire a Senior Analyst that supports our daily performance group. The role primarily works with asset managers external to Northern Trust but could also involve special projects within the broader IRAS group. We are looking for someone that demonstrates a willingness to be coached, act as a leader, and own challenging client relationships. The candidate will be required to navigate clients’ performance setups and attribution models. The ideal candidate will possess a strong balance between client servicing and breaking down performance calculations so that our clients understand the outcome. The role will be expected to navigate complex relationships with internal partners and clients ranging from the back, middle, and front office of the investment management business.

Major Duties

1. Assist in the preparation on client reports and presentations.

2. Obtain client data from partners in operations to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all data provided to clients.

3. Know the difference between various performance methodologies. Ability to research residuals, prove out returns, and know where to pull accounting that supports the underlying returns.

4. Use Microsoft Excel and proprietary performance tools to interpret attribution.

5. Develop or complete projects in designated areas of expertise.

6. Interface with consultants, partners, and clients to determine servicing requirements and problem solving strategies.

7. Set up accounts, monitor and assure quality of data for clients and partners.

8. Capable of presenting our products in front of large audiences especially in front of a client.

9. Field daily inquiries from challenging asset manager clients and follow up with a solution within 24 hours.

10. Set a positive example for partners internally and become a subject matter expert for our IRAS partners globally.

11. Willing to plan out and complete short term projects with little intervention from consultants or team leads.

Knowledge / Skills

Significant knowledge of investments (public and private markets, derivatives), asset allocation analysis, attribution and industry related subject matter such as mandates, laws, regulations and economic conditions that affect investments. Must be familiar with GIPS and how the standards are applied within a firm.

Client servicing centric work experience in the investment/performance industry is required so the candidate can be consultative as it relates to the products and services offered by the performance group.

Have a thorough understanding of performance calculation, attribution methodologies and additional investment analysis (i.e. asset allocation interpretation, due diligence and investment manager search).

Analytical and problem solving skills are required to understand and provide investment reporting solutions.

Technology orientation and proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint is required to generate and improve client reports.

Advance degree program and/or additional distinctions (CFA, CAIA, CIMA, CIPM).

A consultative, proactive approach to client servicing is a must.

Experience

3-5 years of investment related experience MBA and/or CFA a plus.  Client servicing experience required.
