Description

This role concentrates on the strategic development of the trading desk. The trading component involves the execution of lending of clients’ available fixed income securities to the borrower community in an efficient and optimal manner with a focus on effective relationship management, active client engagement, strategic and tactical planning, analytical prowess and  an ability to deploy technology solutions to drive the competitiveness of the function. The role reports to the global head of fixed income trading


Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish trading strategies that are aligned with the broader global trading strategy and position the fixed income business to remain competitive in a landscape of evolving client, borrower and market trends.
  • Interface with borrowers and Northern Trust global trading desks to optimize revenue by effectively lending securities in accordance with client guidelines. Negotiate with borrowers to price transactions based on market supply and demand factors with the ability to make prompt decisions and react to daily market changes.
  • Drive the integration of existing and new technologies to promote greater automation of the trading process, to enhance trading efficiencies, optimize performance and improve performance analytics to support more robust strategic and tactical decision making.
  • As trading desk manager, provide guidance and coaching for the team to promote personal development, technical / analytical skills and the adoption of new technology solutions and process enhancements.
  • Establish, maintain and develop strong relationships with the borrower community to exploit short and long term trading opportunities. Build a deep understanding of borrower trends and requirements in order to promote increased lending balances.
  • Take responsibility for overseeing client, product and cash reinvestment initiatives across the trading desk. Work with global representatives from each of these areas to investigate opportunities, develop strategies and analyze/present performance results. Client interaction is a key responsibility within this role.
  • Work closely with operations teams to minimize all risk situations. Liaise with trade support, collateral and corporate actions teams to promote efficiencies throughout the trading process and avoid loss making situations.


Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a preference for experience in data analytics
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Access, Excel, GSL.
  • Be a strong and confident communicator, capable of influencing discussions and negotiations, capable of proactively developing borrower relationships and supporting client relationships.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to quickly pick up on new concepts and use relevant skills to enhance and improve processes.








Experience

  • Securities lending US fixed income trading experience
