Summary
Reporting to the global head of trading, the candidate will be responsible for managing the regional Securities Lending equity trading teams with a mandate to ensure effective leadership and execution of the trading strategy, oversight of day to day trading activity including the performance management and career development processes.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible and accountable for the regional leadership and oversight of equity trading teams based in Chicago and Canada to drive a cohesive and consistent execution of the business strategy; lead the coordination of efforts across the desks to ensure that the collective output is of the required standard and aligned both regionally and globally
  • Drive the evolution of the trading function across NA amidst rapidly changing client and borrower requirements, growing business constraints and the emergence of new and disruptive technologies; identify future state and drive a regional talent and development strategy that ensures trading teams are being upskilled with the necessary analytical prowess to be able to anticipate change, act on it and position the business competitively 
  • Develop periodic goals, organize the work, set short-term priorities, monitor all activities, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the work. 
  • Serve as the senior regional trading interface for client and prospect engagement leveraging expertise and knowledge across US, International and Canadian equities to talk strategically about market trends and opportunities
  • Assume a central leadership role for key strategic client relationships with responsibility for the execution of portfolio strategy, trading performance and optimization, reporting analytics and market commentaries for clients’ NA  equity portfolios; drive regional teams to ensure performance and output of work is of the appropriate standard for the client 
  • Engage with regional senior borrower contacts to drive the strategic dialogue in alignment with global equity desk heads; identify, prioritise and drive core borrower initiatives across NA equities in collaboration with Head of Trading Strategy & Optimization; be the senior representative for NA equity trading at RMA and other relevant industry conferences
  • Advance the use of technology and analytical expertise to be able to automate, optimize, measure and assess the effectiveness of trading strategy and performance across the region; leverage output to identify growth opportunities
  • Be responsible for holistic regional management requirements of the equity trading teams including compliance, audit, systems, HR related matters, office management; provide direct management of the US domestic equities trading team, oversee day to day activity, manage performance, drive career development etc.
  • Take senior responsibility for Risk management across the NA equities region; leverage borrower relationships across regional equity desks to minimize exposures and achieve optimum outcome
  • Review operational processes across the NA region to ensure sufficient operational support is in place and roles and responsibilities are appropriately defined with efficiencies and synergies maximized 

Knowledge / Skills:
  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to develop periodic goals and to motivate team members towards the goals set
  • Strategic planning skills; ability to perceive the environment and adapt the business to remain competitive  
  • High degree of analytical prowess that can be leveraged in the decision making process
  • Ability to identify, adopt and drive the use of emerging technologies to leverage competitive advantage and achieve efficiencies for the business 
  • Relationship management skills; the ability to effectively deal with broker and client relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • In-depth Functional / Industry Knowledge is required
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change
  • Relevant technical skills / systems knowledge required 
Required Experience:
  • 3-5 years securities lending trading experience of North American and International equities
