The Quantitative Equity Strategist role is a central part of the Quantitative Equity team at Northern Trust Asset Management. Quantitative Equity Strategists work closely with portfolio management, client service and sales, marketing, product management, and research teams to develop and articulate insights relating to our various Quantitative Equity Strategies. 

Quantitative Strategists provide technical expertise to a range of clients and produce topical market and strategy updates to internal and external clients. They act as a specialized source of investment, product, and market knowledge. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Meet with clients, prospects, and internal constituencies to explain investment philosophy, process, and performance of Quantitative Equity investment strategies. 
  • Write thought leadership pieces on various quantitative investing topics and positioning pieces for the firm’s strategies. 
  • Provide timely delivery of high quality communications, both written and oral, which cover Equity product features and performance along with current equity outlooks and analyses. 
  • Prepare client materials, product reviews, market updates and other timely research projects that can be shared with account managers, intermediaries and clients. 
  • Act as a gatekeeper for investment product information as well as for the equity investment teams, managing external requests on their behalf. 
  • Partner with portfolio managers, develop, research, and refine equity products for the firm’s platform. 
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time
The successful candidate will have
  • A BA or BS in Finance, Economics, or related field is preferred; CFA accreditation or progress towards is also preferred. 
  • A strong background in quantitative investing techniques, acquired through formal education and/or work experience. 
  • At least 7 years of industry experience, combined with client facing experience in both a servicing and business development capacity. At least 5 years of direct client and/or prospect engagement experience is preferred. 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills (both verbal and written) with experience delivering in institutional presentations. 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and investing software such as Bloomberg or Factset; experience in programming languages such as VBA, R, Matlab, Python is helpful but not required. 
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing techniques is preferred.  
  • Ability to deliver complex information to a wide array of clients and must do so with a very high level of credibility and expertise.  
  • Demonstrated ability to write portfolio commentaries, research reports, and white papers.
