This senior finance role is responsible for financial reporting and analysis needed to support decision making for Northern Trust’s senior management, including the CFO and CEO. This role requires a collaborative, cross‐functional effort to drive robust, flexible and efficient financial planning and analysis.

 

The role is responsible for leading the Management Reporting, Planning and Analysis team, including conducting the performance management process and providing input for staffing and disciplinary actions. This position reports to the Head of Management Reporting, Planning and Analysis (MRP&A) and Finance Operations.

 

Major Duties

  • Determine priorities, ensuring resources, management of staff, and completion of the performance management process and provides input for promotion, disciplinary, career development, and hiring decisions.  
  • Responsible for report production and analysis of the corporation’s consolidated monthly and quarterly earnings. Includes preparation and presentation of the results to various internal constituencies including senior management and finance leadership.
  • Responsible for the production of quarterly Board of Directors earnings report. 
  • Oversees the preparation and analysis of the Corporation's monthly forecast, leading the production of the report and presentation of the forecast to senior management.
  • Leads the annual Profit Plan build for the consolidated corporation, including: interaction with senior  management in setting the overall corporate goals, setting business unit targets, monitoring the build of the plan, providing status updates to executive management, identifying and providing solutions to close gaps to attain the overall corporate financial objectives.
  • Assists with the presentation of the final Profit Plan to the Board of Directors.
  • Conduct and/or manage special projects and ad hoc requests to support finance leadership and the Corporation’s management group. 
  • Responsible for the oversight, development and maintenance of key management reporting allocation processes and methodologies to facilitate business unit, product and client profitability analysis and reporting.  This includes allocations of costs utilizing driver based methodologies, allocation of balance sheet funding, Funds Transfer Pricing methodologies, and allocation of certain revenues.
  • Serve as the business owner of the financial systems and applications that support management reporting and analysis. Identify, analyze and recommend to senior management enhancements, additions, and changes on technical, software and/or process-related projects.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Possesses leadership and organizational skills required to develop periodic goals and to manage and motivate team members to achieve the established goals.  

  • Analytical and problem solving skills required to evaluate financial results and projections. 

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary to present relevant information to senior management and business unit managers.  

  • Strong personal computer skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) are required to perform analyses and communicate financial information to various constituents.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting, reporting and financial analysis 

 Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years of related experience with emphasis on management reporting, financial analysis and planning.  
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; MBA, CFA or CPA a plus.
