The Investment Communications Specialist will be responsible for leading communications efforts of the Wealth Management National Investment Practice (Office of the WM Chief Investment Officer). The position will own the communications plan for the practice, which supports both internal and external stakeholders. The partner in this role will work closely with several teams across Northern Trust (Business Unit Marketing, Client Service Best Practices, Risk/Compliance) to ensure communications maintain a consistency with our Investment Philosophy and meet the needs of our stakeholders.  

Major Duties: 
  • Develop and maintain overarching communications plan for Wealth Management investments with a lens on critical delivery channels, content and stakeholders 
  • Source, edit, and distribute communications as required by the National Investment Practice 
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders regarding investment communications, including Wealth Management Marketing, Corporate Risk/Compliance and Client Service Best Practices teams 
  • Manage and maintain communications across all key channels for effective reach 
  • Maintain and monitor group email inboxes, responding to enquiries from the field of client facing portfolio managers 
  • Perform group facilitation and training on communications as needed for key strategic programs 
  • Maintain and update library of content supporting our education and training programs 
  • Support field engagement communications surveys and leverage insights to drive changes that enhance how we communicate with stakeholders 
  • Track key metrics to assess the efficacy of existing communications efforts and propose improvements as needed 
  • Lead investment related crisis communications by collaborating with SMEs and Corporate/Business Unit Marketing when necessary 
  • Serve as key investment liaison in organizing occasional internal events targeting investment professionals 
  • Enhance digital communications strategy by optimizing use of intranet portal for investment professionals 
  • Support change management efforts with strategic communications
Knowledge/Skills: 
  • Previous experience in investment communications within wealth management, asset management or other financial services required  
  • Knowledge/interest/experience in investments a plus 
  • Strong project/program management skills necessary 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface with partners at all levels in the organization 
  • Ability to synthesize and distill complex ideas into client facing content 
  • Solid conceptual skills; ability to deal with ambiguity 
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and flexible with a broad overview of process 
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision 
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to excellence 
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook 

Experience and Requirements: 
A College or University degree/or equivalent work experience is required. 
5+ years in the areas of communications in financial services, preferably with a focus on investment/asset management.
