The key responsibilities of the role include: 
  • Responsible for selling ETF, Mutual Fund and Multi Asset Class products and services to prospective clients generating revenue for the bank. 
  • Identifies prospects by various research methods and analyzes client's needs to recommend new services or products. Cross sells Northern Trust's products and services and maintains ongoing relationships with clients. 
  • Identifies new prospects by researching potential needs and prioritizing and producing a business plan
  • Makes sales presentations to clients utilizing knowledge of our products and services
  • Utilizes knowledge of bank's investment, trust, custody and securities products and services to work with other internal partners and recommend new services or products to clients where possible
  • Maintains on-going relationships with advisors, making them aware of the bank's products and services
  • Maintains knowledge of products and services by initiating frequent contact with other financial institutions, partners and keeping abreast of laws and regulations affecting the industry Maintains knowledge of competitors and their products and services
  • Operates independently; has in-depth knowledge of business unit/function
  • As subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level
  • Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult
  • Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities
  • Conducts preliminary analysis 
  • Responsible for direct interaction with different committees and/or management
  • Strategic in developing, implementing and administering programs within functional areas


The successful candidate will benefit from having: 
  • A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required / preferred. 
  • 5-10 years of investment sales experience. 
  • NASD Series 7 and 63 required. 
  • Knowledge of investment management areas across all products and segments such as fixed income, active and passive equities, cash, securities, and international together with other Northern products and services, usually acquired through related work experience, is required to respond to client's needs
  • Ability to communicate and sell Northern products and services to generate revenue for the bank
  • Knowledge of securities and pension industry products and services in order to compete with other financial institutions
  • Negotiation skills are necessary to respond to fee proposals
  • Ability to travel at least 1 week per month
