Support a global quantitative strategies team (USA, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and Bangalore) in generating cutting-edge quantitative research

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of exceptionally talented researchers in; a) conducting R&D on quantitative equity, fixed income and multi-asset strategies, and; b) producing basic and empirical research related to our quantitative platform.
  • Manage a cutting-edge research docket and set research priorities with input from the head of the Quantitative Strategies group, the portfolio management team, the product strategy team, the data analytics team and other Northern Trust partners, as appropriate.
  • Deliver on aggressive research goals.  This role will be ultimately responsible for the quality and timeliness of all research output.  Rapid re-prioritization is the norm and tight timelines are the rule.  Note this is not an academic research environment.
  • Communicate verbally and in written form to a wide array of audiences ranging from novice to expert.  This role may be client facing, DOE. 
  • Hire and develop new staff.  Promote a collegial, knowledge driven esprit de corps and collaborative ethic.  
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics or related field required.  Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing quantitative research teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of publishing in academic and/or practitioner-oriented journals.
  • Strong knowledge of the established asset pricing and factor anomaly literature.  Familiarity with seminal works in asset allocation, risk budgeting and risk management also desired.
  • Experience with the application of ESG and SRI criteria to quantitative strategies 
  • Knowledge of the normative application, algorithms and limitations of artificial intelligence and machine learning preferred.
  • Familiarity with non-linear optimization algorithms, constraint attribution and risk model construction strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of dynamic and adaptive systems and agent-based models a plus.
  • Coding ability in SAS, R, Matlab, Python, etc. is assumed.
  • Expertise in financial econometrics is assumed.
