HEAD OF ESG RESEARCH – GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE INVESTING 
NORTHERN TRUST ASSET MANAGEMENT 

Role Purpose: 
We are currently recruiting for an experienced individual to join our growing sustainable investing team as Head of ESG research. Reporting to the Director of Product Development & Sustainable investing, the head of ESG research is expected to have a strong expertise and specific knowledge about the dominant ESG issues across industries and asset classes. 
The head of research will investigate and assess core ESG risks and opportunities faced by companies globally and the relevance of ESG factors in investment portfolios. 
The head of ESG research is expected to work seamlessly and collaboratively with portfolio managers, strategists, research teams, marketing teams and the product management functions. In addition, the position is a highly visible one, both within the Northern Trust organization and in the broader investment community, and thus the head of ESG research is expected to be effective “ambassador” of the group. 

Key Responsibilities: 
• Responsible for advancing new research, thought leadership, and innovative investment applications in support of NTAM ESG product strategy 
• Scope includes data and analytics, investable indices, indicators, and research. 
• Focus on testing innovative research concepts to create solutions for our clients and publish research in academic and practitioner journals. 
• Client-facing leadership role in presenting compelling thought leadership and applications via in-person meetings, conference calls and events globally 
• Responsible for authoring robust and forward-thinking white papers and research reports in collaboration with colleagues as well as academic partners, as well as leading development projects for new indicators, indices and other research-led products. 
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills with ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise and effective manner is essential. 
• Partner with portfolio managers, develop, vet and refine ESG data for the firm’s Global SI platform. 
• Support and develop tools for the effective integration of ESG analysis into our stock/bond selection and valuation process across asset classes 
• Generate value added ESG investment ideas for our clients (Institutional, Wealth) 
• Attend company and industry presentations 
• Maintain and communicate quarterly market intelligence briefings as it relates to published research and studies, the competitive landscape, and industry trends 
• Liaise with investment teams to remain abreast of existing products and new product development, both proprietary and third-party manager offerings 
• Provide ad-hoc support for the institutional and wealth management businesses via marketing collateral, RFP and other capabilities inquiries 
• Author, co-author and oversee production of at 6 ESG research papers per year 
• Monitor engagement with companies around the globe on ESG 
• Produce ESG reporting
