Credit Portfolio Manager - Global Family Office

Under general supervision, responsible for underwriting and evaluating complex credit requests within the Global Family Office and Private Investment Offices unit of Northern Trust, including personal, commercial, and real estate credit exposures for domestic and international borrowers. 

Partners with bankers, relationship managers and senior credit policy members in underwriting and preparing loan memoranda and loan documentation for new loans, renewals, restructures, and amendments within policy guidelines.  Researches and analyzes pertinent financial statements and investment statements of individuals, businesses, and other entities.

Duties Include

  1. Evaluates and underwrites credit requests across disciplines including personal, commercial, and commercial real estate across a range of domestic and international geographies.
     
  2. Partners with Bankers, Relationship Managers and other internal clients through financial/credit analysis and identification of risk factors to meet proscribed standards of underwriting quality, client service, and productivity.  Adds value to ultimate client relationship by providing timely response and quality underwriting in coordination with client needs.
     
  3. Researches, and analyzes pertinent financial statements and tax returns and investment statements related to personal, commercial, and real estate entities. Evaluates an entity’s stability, aptitude of management, and creditworthiness where appropriate. Prepares and presents written credit memoranda for credit approval at Group and Senior Credit Committee.
     
  4. Compiles all necessary client prepared information and completes client financial
    statement spreadsheets and projections of client's financial condition.

     
  5. Recommends appropriate structure, pricing and covenants on credit facilities.
     
  6. Assists the Bankers with client portfolios and internal administration of accounts; communicates regularly with clients, attends client meetings and presentations and assists Relationship Managers with business development plans and client presentations
     
  7. Coordinates with the Account Managers and obtains appropriate documentation necessary for credit underwriting, monitoring and credit file maintenance; requests and ensures systems information is up-to-date; execution of client servicing events, communicating with clients and other internal and external partners
     
  8. Develops and maintains working knowledge of loan agreements, financial statements and other documentation required to monitor client relationships
     
  9. Well versed in the compliance requirements for new accounts and relationships. Prepares compliance certificates, monitors loan document deficiencies and reviews compliance reports for adherence to policy and procedures
     
  10. Reviews loan documents, submits loans requests for evaluation, may attend loan closings to help review documentation with clients, follows up on missing loan documentation

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting and investments usually acquired through formal education or experience is required to analyze and evaluate financial statements, tax returns and portfolio investment statements.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry laws and regulations, usually acquired through prior experience is required to review credit risk.
  • Analytical and communication skills are required to determine credit risk and to prepare credit presentations.
  • Personal computer skills are required to prepare financial spreadsheets.

Required Experience

  • 2-5 years in personal, commercial, or commercial real estate financial analysis. 
  • Completion of formal bank credit training program
