Under general supervision, provides support for Corporate Compliance related to Northern Trust’s Sanctions Compliance Program, ensuring the effectiveness of sanctions compliance activities. Will be involved with daily corporate and regular proxy action reviews. May also be involved with sanctions risk assessments, ongoing sanctions requirements, analysis of sanctions enforcement actions, reporting requirements and other sanctions related activities. 


Major Duties

1. Researches and reviews daily corporate actions for compliance to current sanctions regulations. Notifying appropriate business partners of research results. Also researches, reviews and determines if there are sanctions issues with ongoing proxy actions.  

2. Remain current on global sanctions developments and requirements to properly advise business partners on the Sanctions Compliance Program and applicable laws, regulations, rules and standards; including keeping them informed of developments or changes that may affect their business area.  

3. Responds to internal and external inquiries and requests for information to clarify regulatory requirements. Reviews and recommends appropriate procedural changes. 

4. Assists in the development of the Global Compliance Program and may act as a contact point within the company for Compliance inquiries from partners.

5. Identifies and documents any compliance risks associated with the Company’s activities. 

6. Participates in targeted sanctions training for partners and delivering communications on applicable Sanctions laws and regulations.  

7. Coordinates and/or performs activities related to designated Global Compliance initiatives.  

8. May carry out Sanctions compliance related activities through direct interaction with committees and management. 

9. Monitors internal procedures and documentation files relating to laws, regulations, rules and standards; and ensures they are accessible to appropriate business partners and management.  

10. Collaborates on projects with Team members, exhibiting ongoing learning and basic project management skills.


Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of applicable Sanctions laws and regulations is expected and strongly preferred; this is usually acquired through formal education or job experience. 

Knowledge and/or previous experience with wires operations or investigations, including understanding SWIFT message type fields are a plus. Knowledge or experience in capital market debt and equity very helpful. Previous Anti-Money Laundering (AML) experience is also helpful. 

Analytical and communication skills required to analyze and summarize information. 

Organizational and Team cooperation skills required to coordinate and accomplish sanctions compliance activities. 

MS computer skills used daily, including but not limited to MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook 2010. 

Working knowledge of Bloomberg terminal, Northern Trust Fundmaster, FactSet, Fircosoft, and/or WorldCheck database systems/databases is highly desired. 

Experience Required

3-5 years of experience or significantly similar experience is required.
